Imagine if our forefathers came to America to escape persecution and violence, only to find a tyrant who deemed them vermin that would infect the country, and who separated children from parents, holding them in cages without a plan to care for them. And without facilities to bathe and maintain personal hygiene, leaving some to get sick and die.
Instead of helping new immigrants escaping violence, as the Statue of Liberty invites them to do, President Donald Trump spent tax dollars for tanks and U.S. stealth aircraft to highlight his speech at the Lincoln Memorial.
Rather than behaving like dictators Vladimir Putin or Kim Jong Un, Trump may not need to free these immigrants.
But at least he could treat them in a more humane way, allowing them the opportunity to join America like his grandfather did, and allowing them to celebrate the Fourth of July freedoms.
