Living only a few hundred feet from Maunakea Liquor & Grocery, I read your story with interest (“Chinatown liquor store to get license despite protest,” Star-Advertiser, June 20). Some may view the decision to let Maunakea Liquor keep its license for now as a pro-business one. It’s not. It was a pro-liquor licensee decision. Most, if not all other, area businesses would like to see Maunakea Liquor closed down entirely, not just have its liquor license terminated.
If the complaints that have come to my office are any indication, the thousands of Chinatown residents who live in close proximity agree with local business. Maunakea Liquor needs to go. Mahalo nui to Mayor Kirk Caldwell for hearing our concerns and testifying at the Liquor Commission personally.
