Thousands of photographs of hula girls at the Kodak Hula Show have been taken over the years, but pictures taken as the show celebrated its 50th anniversary at the Waikiki Shell are extra special. Ronald Wong shows off a 70-pound watermelon grown by his father, Gee Chong Wong, on their Waimanalo farm to enter in the 14th Windward Fair. The elder Wong chose one vine and allowed only two fruit to develop on it to bring about the massive melon, and said he likes his prospects for top honors with the white-seeded Watson variety fruit. Janet Bernard enters her new executive suite office in the Blaisdell Hotel, which is undergoing renovations. The ground-floor lobby is slated for refurbishing, and its marble floor will be restored. The building exterior also will get a fresh coat of paint to highlight its architectural details.
