Bank of Hawaii’s MyBankoh credit card holders will be switched to Mastercard from Visa and American Express beginning Sept. 3 as Barclays takes ownership of the accounts.

The change does not have an effect on the co-branded Hawaiian Airlines Bank of Hawaii World Elite Mastercard credit card, which is also issued and serviced by Barclays. Bank of Hawaii debit cards are not part of the changeover.

Cards that are scheduled for conversion are the Bank of Hawaii American Express Card with MyBankoh Rewards, the Bank of Hawaii Visa Signature Credit Card with MyBankoh Rewards and the Bank of Hawaii Elite American Express Card with MyBankoh Rewards. Neither Bank of Hawaii nor Barclays disclosed the number of customers affected by the change.

Barclays declined to disclose the number of affected customers because it says the information is proprietary.

Account numbers will be changing so affected customers will need to provide updated account information to merchants with whom they have recurring payments.

The difference between the MyBankoh Rewards credit cards and the World Elite Mastercard is that My Bankoh cardmembers were able to earn 1% on all their purchases.

The Barclaycard Rewards Mastercard will enable cardholders to earn 2% on gas, utility and grocery stores and 1% on all the other purchases. There is no annual fee on the Barclaycard Rewards Mastercard. Cardmembers can redeem points for statement credits and gift cards.

The state’s second-largest bank announced in November that it had sold its MyBankoh portfolio with about $51 million in outstanding assets to Barclays to focus on its World Elite Mastercard portfolio. Barclays said the new Barclaycard Rewards Mastercard will be mailed out on Sept. 5 and Bank of Hawaii MyBankoh accounts deactivated on Oct. 20.

Barclays said MyBankoh customers no longer will be able to make Bank of Hawaii in-branch payments after Sept. 3 and that customers should redeem any points on their MyBankoh Rewards credit card prior to Aug. 28. Any unused points will post to customers’ new Barclaycard Rewards Mastercard as a statement credit.
