Three of Hawaii’s top water athletes will be inducted into the 10th Hawaii Waterman Hall of Fame on Aug. 22 at Outrigger Canoe Club.
This year’s class is composed of:
>> Kai Lenny, eight-time SUP Surfing World Champion and winner of the Molokai to Oahu races in stand-up paddleboard and foil. He is the recent recipient of the biggest wave and best performance of the year at the World Surf League big wave awards;
>> Traci Phillips Darling, a three-time Olympian in flat-water kayak and part of four Na Wahine O Ke Kai Molokai to Oahu world championship outrigger canoe crews. She also is a state racquetball and four-time state doubles beach volleyball champion;
>> Robby Naish, a pioneer in kitesurfing and stand-up paddleboard who has won 24 world championship windsurfing titles and owner of Naish International, a longtime manufacturer of watersports equipment.
Individual tickets are $125 and tables are from $1,500-5,000. Doors open at 5:30 p.m.
The event sponsored by the Outrigger Duke Kahanamoku Foundation includes dinner, auction and live music. Information is available at dukefoundation.org.
Koga out at U.S. Girls’ Junior Championships
Honolulu’s Jennifer Koga was eliminated in the round of 64 at the 71st U.S. Girls’ Junior Championship in Stevens Point, Wis., on Wednesday.
Koga was knocked out by Yoona Kim of Fair Lawn, N.J., 2 and 1. Koga was the lone Hawaii golfer in match play.
