I should like to second the observation of columnist Froma Harrop (“Another benefit gained from immigrants: compassion,” Star-Advertiser, July 29).
Many of the nursing aides who came to our home to bathe my wife, put up her hair, and generally care for her while I was out of the house, were young immigrant women from the Philippines. They were gentle, kind, patient, sociable and professional.
My wife’s suffering from pancreatic cancer was made all the more bearable by their visits.
