The recent legislation by the City Council restricting short-term vacation rentals on the North Shore of Oahu is ludicrous.
I have lived on the North Shore for the past 27 years and have witnessed firsthand hundreds of vacationers who rented on the North Shore. They have been very good people, both couples and families.
More recently, two families said that they were disappointed about the new legislation and will not be coming back to Oahu, as they prefer the peace and serenity on the North Shore compared to Waikiki, which is expensive, overcrowded, noisy and congested.
The mayor and City Council should have as their priorities the homeless problem, traffic problem, substandard streets and roads, and upkeep of the city parks and recreation areas, not vacation rentals. Business as usual in Honolulu City Hall. We need new leadership.
