The Thirty Meter Telescope protesters have no right to block the access road and stop people who have the legal right to be on Mauna Kea to perform their jobs. The state needs to step in immediately and clear these people from their illegal occupation of public property and seizure of the access road.
Yes, there are passionate beliefs on both sides of this issue, but breaking the law and causing economic damage must have consequences. An inventory of the names of all these people and the various protesting entities must be obtained by the state, and these people must be held accountable for all the damage their actions have caused to the people and entities that have the legal right to be there in the first place.
The protesters must put their money where their mouths are if they truly believe what they’re doing is right. Negotiation is not possible when the other party is not willing to negotiate.
