Letter: Blocking of public roads is simply unacceptable

A man was in the road blocking South King Street fronting ‘Iolani Palace and four minutes later he was tased several times by police officers, knocked to the pavement and taken away, allowing traffic to proceed normally.

Why, then, have these folks on Mauna Kea been allowed to block a public state road for more than four weeks, preventing the public traffic — and for a while, area workers — from using the tax-paid-for road?

Why the difference? Don’t law-abiding citizens have a right to use all public roads in this state? What about motorists’ equal protection in these two situations?

The police tell me that blocking a public road in Hawaii is a crime. So, the blockers are criminals, not peaceful at all.

Gov. David Ige, why did you run for governor if you don’t want to enforce the public’s equal protection to open public road laws in this state? The Hawaii Supreme Court ruled against the road blockers. Enforce the ruling.
