Mainstream media is reporting that the federal government could fine the factory owners who hired the illegal aliens recently rounded up by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) up to $3,000 per person, total. Yet the mayor of Honolulu wants to fine the bad scofflaws renting unlicensed vacation rentals up to $10,000 a day.
The difference is pretty dramatic beyond the money. The illegal aliens are doing jobs that no one, including legal aliens and local citizens, want to do. They are tough, dirty jobs. Vacation rentals are providing a service for people who don’t want to spend their vacation with other tourists. Nor do they want to pay the exorbitant hotel costs for rooms, food, drinks, bell personnel, parking, etc. And if they have a large family, it can ruin the good effects of a Hawaii vacation.
Wake up, Hawaii.
