Former Punahou athlete Trevor Crabb and partner Reid Priddy came through the contender’s bracket to win the AVP Manhattan Beach Volleyball Open championship on Sunday in Manhattan Beach, Calif.
To begin championship day, the fourth-seeded duo of Crabb and Priddy defeated the No. 3 seed of Tim Bomgren and Troy Field in three sets, 21-15, 17-21, 15-13 to advance into the semifinals. Crabb and Priddy continued their winning ways as they defeated the top seeded and two-time defending Manhattan Beach champions Nick Lucena and Phil Dalhausser in straight sets 21-12, 23-21. In the final against No. 2 seed Casey Patterson and Chase Budinger, Crabb and Priddy won 21-15, 21-19.
As a result of their win, Crabb and Priddy will have their names enshrined on a special commemorative plaque on the volleyball walk of fame at the historic Manhattan Beach Pier.
Steensen to speak at Honolulu QB Club
Sports historian Ralph Steensen will be the featured speaker at today’s Honolulu Quarterback Club meeting at Maple Garden Restaurant.
Steensen will discuss the 1992 University of Hawaii football team, which beat Illinois to win the Holiday Bowl to finish with an 11-2 record.
The luncheon, which is $17, starts at 11:30 a.m. and the program follows at noon. The public is invited.
