Mahalo to the mayor and City Council for enforcing our zoning code.
With the increase in tourism, it is obvious that Waikiki’s hotel and resort zoning needs to be expanded. The obvious solution would be to rezone the area mauka of Kuhio Avenue and makai of Ala Wai Boulevard from apartment zoning to resort zoning.
The recent lawsuits brought by condo owners located in this apartment-zoned area are perfect examples of why all of Waikiki should be rezoned to resort zoning. Once accomplished, Waikiki will reach the hotel room capacity necessary to meet the needs of our fast-growing tourism industry. This will benefit all of Hawaii.
This rezoning will lead to an increase in real property tax income to the city that will help the city meet its commitment to maintain the new and very-much-needed Ala Wai flood control improvements.
