Dead swimmer pulled from waters off Honolua Bay

An unresponsive swimmer was pulled from waters off Honolua Bay today.

Ocean Safety crews arrived at around 11 a.m. after bystanders brought the victim onto a moored catamaran, possibly a tour boat, Maui fire services chief Rylan Yatsushiro said.

A lifeguard then boarded the catamaran to provide basic life support while the vessel was en route to Honokahua Bay.

Emergency and fire crews continued CPR once the victim was brought to D.T. Fleming Beach Park.

Despite all lifesaving efforts, the man, approximately 65 years old, was pronounced dead at the scene.
