The Hawaii soccer team battled back from two goals down in the second half, only to see San Francisco prevail in overtime, 3-2, on Monday afternoon at the UH Lower Campus field.
Senior forward Miciah Madison, an All-West Coast Conference first-teamer in 2018, launched the game-winner from 25 yards straightaway in the 94th minute.
After a scoreless first half, the Dons (1-1) connected on two penalty kicks by Samantha Jehnings in the 63rd and 65th minutes. UH (0-2) came right back with its first score of the season, as Arizona transfer Michaela Rentner took a cross from Izzy Deutsch and tapped in a left-footed score in the 67th. UH tied it up in the 79th on a high-hopper sent into the box by defender Natalie Daub in the 79th minute.
“The way that we defend, our organization, and you know, scoring two goals in the run of play, that was nothing to sneeze at, especially after losing so much offensive power (from last season),” UH coach Michele Nagamine said. “So I was really proud of them today.”
UH hosts Nevada (1-1) back on campus in the Rainbow Wahine Soccer Invitational at 3:30 p.m. Thursday.
