All Hawaii public schools should have air conditioning.
A recent article indicated it’s acceptable to donate funds and air conditioners to public schools that don’t have air conditioning (“Hawaii public schools shift gears on AC, expedite use of window units,” Star-Advertiser, Aug. 23).
However, it appears there is no office or agency that’s tasked to ensure donated funds and equipment are used to get our public schools air conditioned.
Also, there’s no easy way for people who don’t have kids in public school to make AC-related donations. Equally, folks living in neighborhoods with schools that have AC can’t easily donate to schools in other communities.
To ensure Hawaii public schools without air conditioning receive maximum publicity and donations, the Department of Education should prioritize schools that need air conditioners and start a GoFundMe campaign to manage donations.
The existence of a GoFundMe account would give maximum publicity to the need for ACs and make it so much easier for potential donors throughout Hawaii and elsewhere to contribute to this very worthy cause.
