Hawaii Red Cross volunteers help with Dorian aftermath

The Hawaii chapter of the Red Cross has dispatched a total of 17 volunteers to help residents in the aftermath of Hurricane Dorian.

The agency said Saturday that the volunteers are en route or already in Florida, Georgia, North and South Carolina.

The Hawaii contingent includes nine volunteers from Oahu, six from the Big Island, one from Kauai, and one from Molokai, the Red Cross said.

More than 2,800 trained Red Cross responders from all over the country have supported relief efforts.

On Friday night, nearly 1,000 people stayed in 14 Red Cross and community evacuation shelters in South Carolina, North Carolina and Virginia.
