DETROIT >> Country-rocker Uncle Kracker is named in a complaint related to an altercation at a Harrison Township, Mich., bar, the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office confirmed today.

Matthew Shafer, a Macomb County native who goes by the stage name Uncle Kracker, is named in the complaint that was filed late Sunday, Sheriff’s Sgt. Renee Yax said.

The incident occurred at Bumpers Landing on North River Road in Harrison Township some time during the Labor Day weekend, she said.

Yax said there was some type of altercation, but she did not know if Shafer was listed as a victim, a witness or a suspect in the complaint. She did not know who made the complaint.

She said no charges have been filed, and the matter is under investigation.

Shafer could not be immediately reached for comment today.

A woman who answered the phone today at Bumpers Landing, which bills itself as a waterfront sports bar and grill on the Clinton River, said “no comment.”

A witness told WXYZ-TV that when bouncers tried to make a patron at the establishment leave after an argument with a bartender, someone with Shafer intervened for some reason, the TV station reported.

The musician allegedly backed up his friend, and an altercation followed, according to WXYZ-TV. The station indicated Monday that it reached out to Shafer, but had not heard back.

Shafer, a country-rocker from Mount Clemens, was a DJ and right-hand man for Kid Rock. He released his debut album “Double Wide” in 2000.
