Letter: More security needed at Ala Moana Center

We are blessed to be in a conveniently located condominium, yet are troubled to have it located across from Lucky Strike Social Honolulu in Ala Moana Center, where a fatal shooting recently occurred (“Man, 23, charged with murder in Ala Moana Center shooting,” Star-Advertiser, Top News, Sept. 10).

Opened in August 2017, the game room, lounge, bowling alley and party franchise, open until 2 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, has been problematic and a consistent nuisance.

There have been fights, loud motorcycles, car boom boxes, racing tire donuts on the third-floor parking area and frequent yelling by inebriated customers of bars in Ala Moana Center.

Ala Moana security is slow and mostly does not show up.

For more serious offenses I have instead called the police, who are highly professional in keeping order in the late-night environment.

Ala Moana Center bars should limit hours to 12 a.m. and monitor the behavior of their customers.

Ala Moana security should monitor patrons who regularly congregate in the parking area to prevent senseless violence and negative community impact.
