Letter: Consumers should have choice of natural gas

Oahu residents should be able to choose gas to heat water and cook.

I believe that changes to building energy codes are necessary if they meet the needs of residents.

However, Jeff Mikulina of Blue Planet Foundation is fired up about blaming natural gas users for killing the planet (“Use of fossil gas undermines Hawaii’s clean-energy goals,” Star-Advertiser, Island Voices, Sept. 17). Natural gas is less harmful to the planet than coal and other fossil fuels. And it’s affordable.

I have not died from my gas stove. I have enjoyed inexpensive natural gas for 49 years even when there was no electricity available. I also have a solar water heater and it was my choice.

I oppose the City Council’s Bill 25 because I believe homeowners should be able to choose the energy resource that works best for them.

Stop with the fear tactics to force us to use solar products over natural gas.
