Honolulu police and fire responded this morning to reports of a car that veered off an embankment going Kaneohe-bound on the Likelike Highway.

Police said the car went off the highway shortly after the Wilson Tunnel, going Kaneohe-bound.

The Honlulu Fire Department responded at about 8 a.m. with four units and 15 personnel about a quarter-mile after the tunnel. Responding firefighters found that the car had gone down about 50 to 75 feet in an area without a guardrail. The woman, in her 30s, was able to get out of the car on her own.

Firefighters packaged and hoisted her up and transferred her to the care of Emergency Medical Services at about 8:50 a.m.

Honolulu EMS treated the woman who was in serious condition.

As of noon, crews were still at the highway, working on removing the car, police said. Traffic is able to pass through.
