Tropical Storm Kiko continues to meander westward in the direction of the Hawaiian Islands and strengthened slightly overnight.

As of 5 p.m., Kiko was 1,170 miles east of Hilo, nearing the beginning of the Central Pacific, and moving northwest near 12 miles per hour with maximum sustained winds of 60 mph. This motion is expecting to continue through Tuesday. Kiko could turn back toward the west Wednesday.

Some additional strengthening is possible through tonight, but weakening is forecast to begin Tuesday and Kiko is forecast to become a remnant low then dissipate later this week, according to the National Weather Service.

Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 45 miles from Kiko’s center.
