California man on honeymoon dies at Maunalua Bay

A 36-year-old California man, who was on his honeymoon, died today after becoming unresponsive in the water at Maunalua Bay on Oahu, according to Emergency Medical Services.

He was identified by the Visitor Aloha Society of Hawaii as Jamal Jordan of San Jose, Calif.

VASH, which responds to victims in crisis, has reached out to assist Jordan’s wife and their families.

“He got married on Saturday and was here with his wife on their honeymoon,” said VASH President and CEO Jessica Lani Rich. “They had only arrived yesterday. Of all the cases that we get, this had to be one of our top-five saddest.”

EMS arrived at about noon and assisted with a death pronouncement for Jordan, who was participating in an ocean recreational activity at the bay when he became unresponsive.
