Murder investigation opened after man, 39, shot to death in Makaha

Honolulu police have initiated a murder investigation involving a 39-year-old man killed at Makaha Valley Community Park.

Police said the victim was involved in a large affray at the park on Manuku Street sometime between 7 p.m. and 7:15 p.m. Wednesday.

Lt. Deena Thoemmes of the Honolulu Police Department’s Homicide Detail said the victim sustained “traumatic injuries” and died at the scene.

Positive identification is pending.

Thoemmes said they are awaiting autopsy results to determine the type of traumatic injuries the victim sustained.

There are no arrests at this time.

Shayne Enright, spokeswoman of the Honolulu Emergency Services Department, said Emergency Medical Services responded to a call of multiple shots fired in the area of Manuku Street at about 7:10 p.m.

Enright said the victim suffered gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.
