Anyone who’s been to the Honolulu Museum of Art’s Spalding House in Makiki Heights would likely agree the site is special. So special, in fact, that it would be a shame to not continue opening it up to the public.
Spalding House will go up for sale next month, for $15 million, a decision to allow the museum to refocus on its main South Beretania Street facility. A garden grows at Hale Mauliola

A wastewater system provides irrigation for papaya and banana trees, as well as ti, “song of India,” heliconia and ginger plants growing at the 5-year-old transitional housing facility for the homeless.
The residents can learn gardening skills there, something officials of the overseeing Institute for Human Services have seen flourish at IHS Iwilei: the green shoots of hope.
