The strengthening trades may prompt a wind advisory for some portions of the state over the weekend, forecasters say.

The trade winds are expected to strengthen through tonight and into the weekend, forecasters said, while an increase in windward showers is expected Saturday night through Sunday.

The National Weather Service said the strengthening trades may prompt a wind advisory for some portions of the state over the weekend.

Today’s forecast calls for partly to mostly cloudy skies, with highs from 83 to 88 degrees Fahrenheit and east winds of 15 to 25 mph. Tonight’s lows are from 71 to 76.

Surf remains small today, but due to the strong trades over the weekend, eastern shores will likely be under a high surf advisory.

A large, north and northeast swell is also expected to arrive Saturday night and peak Sunday into early Monday, reaching advisory levels.

Surf along northern shores will be 3 to 5 feet today, building to 6 to 10 feet Saturday. Surf along eastern shores will be 3 to 5 feet today, building to 4 to 7 feet Saturday.

Surf along southern shores will be 1 to 3 feet today, and 2 to 4 feet Saturday.

Trade winds are expected to ease back to the moderate range early next week, forecasters said.

More record temperatures, meanwhile, continue to be set this month. A record high of 90 degrees was set at Kahului on Thursday, surpassing the previous record for the date of 87 degrees set in 2001.
