Man dies in pedestrian accident in Ahuimanu

A pedestrian was killed after being struck by a vehicle in Ahuimanu Sunday night.

Positive identification is pending.

Police said a 39-year-old woman was traveling south on Kahekili Highway in a Nissan Quest van when it crossed a solid white line and struck a male pedestrian who was walking along the shoulder of the roadway at about 7:53 p.m.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. His age was not immediately available.

Police temporarily shut down the highway between Ahaolelo and Ahuimanu roads to investigate.

It is unknown at this time whether speed, alcohol or drugs were factors.

This is the 48th traffic-related fatality on Oahu this year compared to 59 at the same time last year.
