Daniel K. Inouye Elementary School did not have a case of measles after all, but sent a letter to parents and guardians Monday “in an abundance of caution to alert families of a potential health issue reported by a parent,” the school’s principal wrote in a second letter Tuesday.

Principal Yuuko Arikawa on Monday wrote a letter to parents and guardians that began, “We received a report from the family of a PreK child this morning stating that their child has measles. The child is not in school and will return once they are cleared from a physician.”

Today, Arikawa wrote a second letter that said, “Please be assured that the safety of your child(ren) is our highest priority. It is important that we work together to keep our children in good health. Everyone benefits from a safe and healthful school environment.”

The school is located on Schofield Barracks.

Janice Okubo, spokeswoman for the state Health Department, said Health officials have received no recent report from a physician of a measles diagnosis. The last measles diagnosis — of an infected visitor on Oahu — was made in November, Okubo said.

Physicians are required to report any measles cases to the Health Department, Okubo said.
