Moped rider seriously injured in collision with vehicle in McCully

A 40-year-old moped rider was seriously injured in a collision in McCully-Moiliili Tuesday night.

Police said the rider was traveling southbound on McCully Street when he collided with a gray 2008 Lexus operated by a 28-year-old man at the intersection of South Beretania Street at about 10:15 p.m.

The Lexus driver was traveling northbound on McCully Street and was attempting to make a left turn onto Beretania Street at the time of the collision.

Police said the 40-year-old man was thrown from his moped upon impact. He was initially taken in critical condition to a hospital. His condition later improved to serious condition.

Police said the moped rider was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. The Lexus driver did not sustain any injuries.

Speed, alcohol or drugs were not factors.
