Judging by the multilingual posts on Twitter, the 47th annual Honolulu Marathon Sunday will be as international an event as ever.

Search for the #honolulumarathon hashtag to see everyone who’s nervous, excited, en route — and already here, adjusting to warmer-than-usual weather.

“Definitely not expecting anywhere near a PB (personal best) … 25 degrees C and about a million percent humidity,” said British poster @joescmoagogo, with a selfie. “But not a bad place to run in: a beach all to myself!”

With City Lights, the holidays are on

The final ornament will be placed atop the 50-foot holiday tree today, and the opening celebration for the 35th annual Honolulu City Lights at Honolulu Hale is slated for Saturday evening. The mayor’s tree-lighting ceremony will begin at 6 p.m., just as the Public Workers’ Electric Light Parade begins its slow roll down King Street. In addition to festive displays, there will be a holiday concert, photos with Santa and food booths.

Motorists attempting to avoid the scene should note that Punchbowl Street from Beretania to South King streets will close at 11:30 a.m. Saturday — earlier than usual for this event — and will reopen at 11:30 p.m.
