City officials announced today that the closure of a section of Lualualei Beach Park in Waianae has been extended through Jan. 2 following requests from the community.

Originally, the announced park closure dates were from Nov. 25 until Monday.

The partial park closure impacts the Kaena side of Lualualei Beach Park — from Pokai Bay Beach Park along Pokai Bay Street to Farrington Highway.

Officials said the closure was necessary to enforce the Stored Property Ordinance in the area.

“We appreciate the continued patience of the community, their feedback, and support of these efforts to improve the condition of our parks,” said the Honolulu Department of Parks and Recreation in a news release.
