The Spalding House in Makiki Heights officially closes its doors at the end of museum hours on Sunday, according to the Honolulu Museum of Art.

The museum announced over the summer that its board of trustees had decided to put the historic Spalding House property at 2411 Makiki Heights up for sale in order to focus its resources on its main South Beretania Street campus.

Elite Pacific Properties has listed the historic property for $15 million.

In its weekly newsletter, HoMA noted that its Beretania Street location would be closed from Saturday to Monday for its annual Kamaaina Christmas event, and reopen Tuesday. Spalding House will remain open during its normal operating hours of 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. this weekend, and special shuttles will be available due to the anticipation of many visitors and limited parking.

The exhibit, “In the House: Recent Acquisitions” is currently on view, as is the permanent installation of David Hockney’s “L’Enfant et les sortileges,” which will remain in the museum’s collection, but may be in storage for some time following the closure.

The Cafe will be open 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., with its final day on Sunday, but due to high volume, is limiting service to walk-in customers and dine-in guests only. The cafe is fully booked with reservations, according to a voice recording on its telephone line, which thanks customers for their support over the years.

A special shuttle this weekend will offer pickups from Roosevelt High School Saturday, and Hanahauoli School Sunday. about once every 30 minutes, starting at 10:45 a.m., with the last run at 3 p.m. There will be no shuttle from the Beretania Street campus.
