A 66-year-old man who fell while hiking the popular Diamond Head State Monument trail around noon Tuesday has been transported to a hospital, according to Honolulu Emergency Medical Services.

The man, a visitor from Japan, tripped and fell about 15 feet down the trail, and suffered facial abrasions. EMS treated him and transported him to a trauma center in serious condition.

The Honolulu Fire Department also responded, and extricated the man from the location where he had landed.

Diamond Head remains one of Oahu’s top visitor attractions, and the top spot for rescues of hikers on the island.
