Flood advisory in effect for Kauai; flash flood watch in effect for rest of state

UPDATE: 6:15 a.m.

A flood advisory remains in effect for Kauai County through 7:30 a.m. today as heavy rainfall continues to soak the island of Kauai.

Radar at 6:04 a.m. showed heavy rainfall over a large portion of Kauai, the National Weather Service said. Rain was falling at a rate of up to 1 to 2 inches per hour.

Although the areas of rainfall are moving northward, additional rainfall is approaching Kauai from the south.

PREVIOUS COVERAGE

A flash flood watch remains in effect through Tuesday afternoon for all Hawaiian Islands.

Forecasters say a Kona low will form west of the islands tonight and affect portions of the state for the next few days. Expect increased winds from the south-southeast, with bands of heavy rainfall and the possibility of thunderstorms. Oahu and Kauai are expected to face the greatest risk of flooding.

A flash flood warning issued for Oahu earlier this afternoon and a flood advisory for Maui tonight have both expired.
