The second-floor lounge of the Armed Services YMCA has been refurbished, complete with a wall mural of the Hawaiian Islands. The redecorating was made possible by a $10,000 gift from the Frank E. Gannett Newspaper Foundation of Rochester, N.Y. The YMCA has launched a $450,000 fund drive to improve the old building on Hotel Street.

Mr. and Mrs. Hipolito Rivera pose on the front porch of their home in Maui’s Hamakuapoko plantation village. Hipolito, a native of Vintar, Ilocos Norte, Philippines, came to the village in 1924. The couple brought up 11 children. They will be moving to a new suburban home on Hilu Place in Kahului, a four-bedroom, hollow-tile house with a two-car garage.

STARADVERTISER / DECEMBER 9, 1960

Harvey’s Restaurant at the corner of Ala Moana Boulevard and Coral Street was owner Harvey S. Brinn’s first venture as a restaurateur. The restaurant’s specialty was chicken dinners prepared according to a European recipe and served in stainless-steel casseroles. Trade symbol Harvey the Rabbit is pictured among the diners.
