Roosevelt High School holds socially distant cap-and-gown ceremony

Roosevelt’s Class of 2020 was one of Hawaii’s first high schools to hold a cap-and-gown ceremony on May 20 during the COVID-19 pandemic. Families wore masks and followed social-distancing guidelines as graduates received their diplomas in an empty auditorium.

Roosevelt High School Vice Principal Jason Okamoto grabbed a pair of gloves before the Class of 2020 graduation ceremony held on Wednesday. Roosevelt held a modified graduation ceremony as a result the COVID-19 pandemic with 228 of 270 students participating. The ceremony, which is normally held on the football field, was estimated to take three hours rather the usual one hour according to Principal Sean Wong.
