Gov. David Ige for the first time held a Facebook live conference with all four county mayors in Hawaii to discuss the isles’ response to the coronavirus pandemic.

The afternoon online conference was held following an update from the state Health Department today of three new coronavirus cases in Hawaii — all on Oahu — bringing the statewide total to 647.

Ige said the 14-day quarantine for incoming air passengers to Hawaii would be extended past June 30, but did not provide a specific end date.

He also said that he and the mayors have been working on what it will take to end the 14-day interisland quarantine for the last three weeks and an announcement is expected in the next few days.

“So stay tuned,” he said.

The governor and the mayors, appearing on the Zoom platform, took questions submitted by viewers for an hour.

“Clearly the response — as a partnership — has been truly amazing across the state of Hawaii,” said Ige. “Clearly, Hawaii continues to lead the country in the per capita number of positive COVID-19 cases and leading the country in the lowest requiring hospitalization, intensive care units, as well as other important measures. I would like to note we’re now above 45,000 tests completed for those who are symptomatic or asymptomatic close contact of those who are COVID positive. And we have among the lowest rate in the country at less than 2% tested ending up being positive for COVID-19. So it truly has been a team response from all counties and the state of Hawaii.”
