University of Hawaii to open new Life Sciences Building

This is a view of one of the corridors that lead to the labs on the first floor of the new University of Hawaii Life Sciences Building. The 45,000-square foot structure will encourage interdisciplinary collaboration and includes teaching and research labs plus office space. It will house the College of Natural Sciences biology, microbiology and botany departments along with the Pacific Biosciences Research Center and the Biological Electron Microscope Facility. It is expected to serve 1,000 students weekly and house 23 faculty members and 60 graduate students.

The wet lab's floor is specially coated with epoxy making it water resistant. There are also drains in the floor.
