UPDATE 10:35 a.m.

A stolen car speeding on Pali Highway spun out of control and collided with the center median, killing one man and critically injuring a woman early this morning, Honolulu Police Department officials confirmed.

The fatal crash occurred just before 3 a.m.

Police said the car rolled over, and four occupants were ejected.

Of the four, Emergency Medical Services reported a man, about 25, died, while a woman, about 35, was taken to the hospital in critical condition. Police said the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The other two were placed under arrest for unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle in the second degree.

Police do not yet know if drugs or alcohol were involved.

Police said the crash occurred about a mile before Castle Junction, which is about where the hairpin turn on the highway starts heading Kailua bound.

It is the 26th traffic fatality this year compared with 30 at the same time in 2019. The investigation is ongoing.

UPDATE: 9:15 a.m.

A man involved in a single-vehicle accident early this morning on the hairpin turn on the Pali Highway is dead and a woman is in critical condition, according to a spokesperson for Emergency Medical Services.

The Kailua-bound lanes of the Pali Highway were reopened around 6 a.m.

The Kailua-bound lanes of the Pali Highway remain closed due to a motor vehicle accident early this morning.

The single-vehicle crash occurred on the hairpin turn on the Pali Highway headed toward Kailua around 3:15 a.m., according to Emergency Medical Services. A male and female, approximately 25 and 35 years old, respectively, were in the vehicle, EMS reported. Their conditions were not immediately available.

The Kailua-bound lanes of Pali Hwy are closed by Nuuanu Pali Drive as police conduct their investigation.
