Honolulu police ask for help with Waikiki purse-snatching case

Honolulu police is asking for the public’s help in identifying a male suspect in an attempted purse-snatching in Waikiki.

The robbery occurred at the entrance of the Ilikai Hotel & Luxury Suites at 1777 Ala Moana Boulevard just after 11 a.m. on Nov. 2.

Police released a surveillance video that shows a blue 2020 two-door Mini Cooper approach a woman and a male suspect in the passenger seat exit the vehicle and grab the victim’s purse.

A struggle ensued as the woman held on to her bag. The surveillance footage then shows the victim falling to the ground when the suspect let go of the purse.

Police said the suspect fled in the vehicle in an unknown direction.

The suspect is described as a man in his 20s to 30s, 5 feet, 6 inches and approximately 160 to 180 pounds with a slim build. He was wearing a black hooded sweater, mask and a white baseball cap at the time of the attempted purse-snatching.

Police said the Mini Cooper’s Hawaii license plate is TZS 566.

Anyone with information on the suspect is asked to call police. Tipsters may also call CrimeStoppers at 955-8300.
