Wailupe Stream basin to get federal funding

The city and county of Honolulu will receive $1,766,053.50 to repair damage to the Wailupe Stream Boulder Basin caused by severe flooding and landslides in April 2018.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency grant will not only restore the basin to its pre-disaster condition, but will cover additional improvements aimed at preventing similar damage from severe weather in the future.

To date, Hawaii has received more than a half a billion dollars in federal relief funding to help the state recover from the 2018 natural disasters, according to U.S. Sen. Brian Schatz (D-Hawaii).

“As we continue to recover from the natural disasters in 2018, I will keep fighting for more federal resources at every opportunity,” Schatz said in a release.
