Man, 32, in critical condition after motorcycle crash in Makakilo

A motorcyclist sustained critical injuries after he crashed into a vehicle in Makakilo early today.

The crash occurred at the intersection of Makakilo Drive and Nohohale Street sometime before 7 a.m.

Police said the motorcyclist, 32, was traveling southbound on Makakilo Drive at a high rate of speed and was negotiating a bend in the roadway.

He swerved to avoid striking a vehicle that stopped in traffic to allow a pedestrian to cross in an unmarked crosswalk. Police said the motorcyclist struck the rear of a Chevrolet driven by a 43-year-old man. The driver did not sustain any injuries and remained at the scene.

The motorcyclist was thrown upon impact, police added. He sustained possible internal injuries and was taken in critical condition to The Queen’s Medical Center. He was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

Police said speed was a factor on the part of the motorcycle. Alcohol and drugs were not involved.

The investigation is ongoing.
