It started with the new Circa casino, but it didn’t end there. One day after Circa opened with a 21-and-older-only policy, The Cromwell on the Strip reopened with the same restriction. Those under 21 are allowed to go only to the restaurants Barry’s Prime at Circa and Giada at Cromwell; however, all other areas of both casinos are off limits.

While these are the first-ever Las Vegas casinos to adopt an adults-only stance, the idea isn’t completely unprecedented — the Bellagio banned strollers at one point, but rescinded the rule after there was pushback from customers.

Palazzo closes hotel: Previously closed weekdays only, the hotel rooms in the Palazzo tower will be completely closed for the next two weeks. The casino, restaurants, bars, Grand Canal Shoppes and parking garage remain open, with the rooms scheduled to come back online Dec. 23.

Dark days: Every year most of the production shows go dark in December and it’s helpful to have a list of the shows that won’t be performing. This year it’s easy to track: All of them are closed. Not really — there are a few small shows running. But due to the COVID-19 restrictions, all of the major productions are currently closed and will remain so into the new year.

Conservatory Christmas: The Bellagio’s Conservatory &Botanical Garden’s holiday display is in place. It features a team of horses pulling a carriage, polar bears and a leprechaun guarding the bears’ food, a town crier blowing a trumpet, and of course, a giant decorated Christmas tree. The display will run through Jan. 9 and is free to view.

Question: Will it be easier and less expensive to get a room for New Year’s Eve this year?

Answer: Probably yes on both. In a survey conducted last month, 75 casinos had rooms available. The lowest-priced room for New Year’s Eve was at the Lucky Club in North Las Vegas for $101. Other good deals were found at the Gold Coast for $108 and in two-night packages at Flamingo, The LINQ, Bally’s and Aria, were all under $300. The most expensive room was at the Four Seasons for $795.
