Honolulu Fire Department suspends search for person swept away in Waihona Stream in Pearl City
The Honolulu Fire Department suspended its search at 4:14 p.m. today for a person reportedly swept away in the Waihona Stream in Pearl City Tuesday, an HFD spokeswoman said.
HFD checked with the Honolulu police and there has no weather-related missing persons report filed, HFD spokeswoman Louise Kim McCoy said. Unless HFD receives further information, the search will not resume.
Shortly before 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, more than 25 firefighters responded to a call by an individual who reported a small-framed person in the stream near Waihona Street.
Air 3 conducted an aerial search while ground crews searched downstream until about 7:40 p.m.
The search resumed at 5:58 a.m. today and continued with six personnel, a rescue company and Air 3, searching on foot and by air. Additional units arrived at 8:41 a.m. with 11 more personnel.
At 1:45 p.m., HFD discontinued its drone unit search.
The National Weather Service has extended the flash flood watch for all islands until 6 p.m. Friday.
The fire department reminds the public to avoid flooded areas or waterways.
