Vehicles are backed up along the H-1 Freeway heading westbound near the Pali Highway offramp on Saturday. A water main break on the Moanalua Freeway backed up traffic for miles last weekend.
The Honolulu Board of Water Supply reminds Oahu motorists that one westbound lane of Moanalua Freeway is closed today through 10 p.m. as crews continue repairs to a damaged 42-inch transmission main near the Fort Shafter/Ahua Street exit.
A contractor, Hensel Phelps, damaged the main Friday while tunneling under the freeway to get to a new sewer line.
One right westbound lane on Moanalua Freeway will close from 4 a.m. to 10 p.m. and two right westbound lanes will also close from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. from the H-1 split to the Fort Shafter onramp daily this week, and possibly longer, for repairs.
The Fort Shafter/Ahua Street exit will remain closed until repairs are completed. Additionally, Board of Water Supply crews this morning closed the Fort Shafter onramp from Kaua Street onto the Moanalua Freeway.
Signage and cones are in place to direct drivers.
Motorists are urged to use Nimitz Highway or the Airport viaduct as alternate routes.
