Man, 48, critically injured in Aiea pedestrian accident

Honolulu police said a 48-year-old male pedestrian crossing Kamehameha Highway in Aiea was taken to the hospital in critical condition after being struck by a vehicle early this morning.

Police said the man was struck at 5:17 a.m. while crossing the highway at Honomanu Street. Although he was in a marked crosswalk, he was crossing against the red palm signal.

A 33-year-old Aiea man was driving westbound on the highway when he struck the pedestrian.

The pedestrian has since been upgraded to serious condition, police said.

Speed, alcohol and drugs do not appear to be contributing factors in the collision. An investigation is ongoing.
