A distressed swimmer near Spitting Caves was airlifted from the water yesterday evening.

The Honolulu Fire Department received a call at 6:57 p.m. about the distressed swimmer, a 24-year-old man, who was about 50 feet from Spitting Caves and was unable to exit the water during rough ocean conditions.

HFD’s Air 1 was in the middle of an injured hiker rescue and took a rescue specialist into the water. Air 1 then airlifted the swimmer and brought him to Koko Head District Park and transferred care to the Honolulu Emergency Medical Services.

HFD reported no injuries.
