Hawaii County firefighters continue to work to contain a brush fire today that broke out Tuesday in Waimea’s Ouli Gulch.

The blaze was 200 acres in size and 75% contained as of 11 a.m., officials said in a news release.

The fire broke out in Ouli Gulch between Kohala Mountain Road and Kawaihae Road, proceeding downhill toward both Kamuela View Estates and South Kohala View Estates.

No homes were evacuated and no roads were closed as two bulldozers helped firefighters cut fire breaks.

HFD sent 17 units and worked throughout the night to contain the blaze and ensure no homes or critical infrastructure were damaged.

Crews today continue to put out hot spots in the burn area. HFD’s Chopper 1 is also on scene to help access areas inaccessible by road.
