Honolulu police and staff from the Honolulu Medical Examiner’s office investigate the scene of an industrial accident today in Kalihi.

A 28-year-old man died today after he became trapped under heavy equipment he was servicing in Kalihi.

Honolulu Fire Department and Honolulu Emergency Medical Services personnel responded to Bob’s Equipment Sales & Rentals at 2285 Hoonee Pl. just before 10 a.m.

When firefighters arrived, they found an employee of the company “trapped under a truck-mounted, scissors-type crane” he had been servicing, HFD said.

Firefighters were about to use hydraulic tools to lift the crane off the man when another employee from the heavy equipment company used a forklift to lift the heavy arm of the crane off his co-worker.

Crews then removed the 28-year-old and administered cardiopulmonary resuscitation until EMS arrived and took over.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene from injuries sustained in the accident.
