You’ve probably heard of lobster rolls, but what about lobster corn dogs?

Having lobster corn dogs on Oahu is Hawaiis Only food truck’s claim to fame, according to Lokahi Cuban, who co-owns the business with chef Bricyn “Kale” Afong. The truck celebrated its grand opening on July 10.

“The lobster corn dog came from chef Graham Elliot (from Masterchef),” Cuban says. “Chef Graham is Bricyn’s good friend, and they collabed on bringing the lobster dog to Hawaii.” (Read more about Elliot in our cover story on pages 10-11.)

Cuban says the lobster is sourced from a local vendor in Hawaii, but it comes from Canada. After being fried in a cornbread-waffle hybrid batter, the concoction is drizzled with a house-made lemon aioli.

“Bricyn started the Hawaiis Only brand, so we figured we’d carry the name ‘Hawaiis Only’ for this food truck,” Cuban explains.

Hawaiis Only also features dishes like Hawaiian-style garlic shrimp ($14), seafood boil ($15) and a fresh island poke bowl ($13).

“We only serve poke bowls if we can source fresh fish,” Cuban says.

The seafood boil features a medley of clams, corn, Portuguese sausage and shrimp. Hawaiian-style garlic shrimp plates have 10-12 pieces of shrimp, two scoops of rice, coleslaw and a signature garlic butter sauce.

You don’t have to look far for dessert; Hawaiis Only has a neighboring cart that serves up slushes ($5) and churros with dipping sauces (one for $6, two for $10). Churro flavors include guava, lilikoi and mango, but flavors are subject to change.

On Fridays and Saturdays, Hawaiis Only features a kamaaina special from 5 to 7 p.m.

“You can feed your family of four for $50,” Cuban says. “Choose the seafood special or garlic shrimp, and we’ll make it family style. This meal comes with drinks and churros, too. We wanted to do something to give back to the community.”
