Police do what they can to help the homeless
Honolulu police officers spend what appears to be the majority of their time dealing with the homeless and young people who just don’t want to work, and they do it well.
However, their hands often are tied. They talk with street people and get them to move on somewhere, or have them return something small they might have stolen from a store, but there simply is not much more the police can do.
We must give police officers credit for their handling of these sad cases. Thank you, HPD, for handling this difficult job. Please continue to do your best. It is noticed and appreciated.

More dogs on the loose at Ala Moana, Kaimana
As to the matter of dogs at Ala Moana Regional Park, there are more canines there than ever and at Kaimana Beach, as well. Sometimes they are on a leash, and half the time not.
The lifeguards won’t do anything and the police rarely come when you call in a complaint.
I love dogs, but I have been lunged at by all manner of dogs at Ala Moana park while running or walking, only to have the owners act surprised and claim that their dog never did that before.
It is time to enforce the law before an accident happens. I don’t even want to talk about Waimanalo Beach or Kailua Beach, where leash laws are rarely followed.

Cal Thomas’ columns not worth reading
Is columnist Cal Thomas really enjoyed by many of your readers?
I appreciate publishing many points of view, but his columns are filled with lies, twisted facts and conspiracy theories — just really stupid and insulting to a reader with a brain. Marc Thiessen is a reasonable opinion writer from that perspective, as is George Will.
What about reviving Leonard Pitts for those of us who appreciate that perspective?
